Spend three-hours learning about Grid for Windows with one of our Smartbox experts. This workshop is designed for beginners so no prior knowledge is needed!
This interactive, hands-on session gives you the opportunity to network and ask questions as you work through learning the basics of the software. We'll explore how to get set up with Grid 3, the symbol and text AAC options available and who they are best suited to. You'll also take a tour of the settings and learn key editing skills.

Who should attend?
This course is made for anyone who wants to learn how to start supporting someone using Grid 3 communication software. You may be a professional or a family member supporting someone who uses AAC.
This workshop is not suitable for Grid for iPad. You will need access to Grid 3 or to download a free trial of Grid 3 on Windows to take part (further information below).
Course outcomes
By the end of this session, you will:
• Know key features and theory behind a selection of symbol and text AAC vocabularies
• Be able to make simple edits to a grid set using key features, including personalising text, images and linking pages of grid sets.
• Understand how to connect and entertain with Accessible Apps

Keira Fewtrell
Assistive Technology Training Specialist, Smartbox
Keira has over a decade of experience with AT and AAC. She has been delivering online and in-person training for several years and presented at renowned AAC conferences. Now part of our Training Team, Keira has also worked as part of our Assistive Technology Team working directly with AAC users and their teams finding bespoke solutions and witnessing the impact AAC can have for users first-hand. Keira has also previously worked in education settings so brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to her training.
Alicia Alverson, MA CCC-SLP
Speech and Language Pathologist/Clinical Education Specialist
Alicia Alverson (she/her) is an ASHA certified Speech-Language Pathologist and RESNA certified Assistive Technology Professional with a passion for alternative access. She has experience working in home-care, outpatient and inpatient rehabilitation, schools, and skilled nursing facilities providing AAC and AT services. Alicia advocates for individuals’ agency and autonomy through access to communication and assistive technology integration. Alicia is employed full-time for Smartbox Inc., the developers of Grid 3 software and speech generating devices. She also serves as a board member of the Northwest Augmentative Communication Society.

1. What do I need to take part?
A laptop or phone with a camera and a microphone. A headset is also handy if you are in a room with other people. You must also have a copy of Grid 3 and a device which can run it. To download a free trial, head to the navigation bar at the top of the screen, select the ‘more’ dropdown, then ‘try Grid’.
2. Do I need any prior knowledge of AAC to attend?
No prior knowledge required - the workshop is designed for beginners.
3. Will there be breaks?
Yes, we have scheduled in regular comfort breaks to allow you to get a drink and take a break from the screen.
4. How will I receive joining instructions?

5. What happens if I can't make it?
